DID YOU KNOW FUNCTIONAL APPAREL DESIGN IS WORN BY MOST EVERYONE, EVERY DAY?
If you have ever worn workout tights, training shorts, a waterproof rain jacket, a t-shirt that dries quickly, a stretchy dress, a soccer jersey, a helmet, a backpack, or any other apparel/gear referred to as sport, athletic, athleisure, active, or performance, this, my friend, is FUNCTIONAL APPAREL.
The word FUNCTIONAL refers to design attributes that ENHANCE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BODY OR PROTECT THE BODY IN SOME WAY THROUGH INNOVATIVE CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS. For example: Companies such as LuluLemon may use stretch yarns in yoga pants to give you more flexibility. Nike may use seam tape to join seams in a jacket instead of sewing it with thread to reduce water entry. Adidas may use seamless engineered construction to make sports bras more comfortable by eliminating seams that chafe. G-Star is known for their articulated knee panels in jeans that not only looks stylish but allows you to bend easily. The North Face may use ergonomic construction in backpacks to support good posture…. These are just a few examples of how functional attributes show up in sport and fashion products every day.
