The Textile Tour offers a snapshot of the diverse, colorful, and unique to Portland textile scene. We will walk approximately a half mile total in the Downtown/Chinatown district, to cover 4 of my top textile destinations, each place within a few blocks of one another. The Tour kicks off with coffee and a treat at local coffee shop: Simple. Love. Coffee.
The first textile spot is the focus of the tour: an insider view and an hour talk at one-of a-kind Textile Hive, home to 40,000 pieces from the private, international textile collection of Andrea Aranow. The breadth and depth of the cloth designs in the collection are exceptional, showcasing aesthetic styles such as mid-century modern, art-deco, shibori, batik, and tropicals, spanning continents and time periods.
The other three picks for the tour include: • a specialty tailor and hand knit shop, known for stunning, luxury fabrics and technical designs • A specialty rug shop featuring ethically sourced, vibrant Moroccan Berber rugs • a workshop/retail space focussd on up-cycled, quality Japanese fabric and gorgeous designed soft goods.
