Sellwood Bridge to Riverview Cemetery
Riverview Cemetery is a private cemetery located in the west hills of SW Portland. Founded in 1882 by a group of prominent Portlanders, this cemetery is the final resting place of members of the Ladd, Corbett, and Pittock families. Other notables buried here include western lawman, Virgil Earp, brother of Wyatt, and suffragist Abigail Scott Duniway.
We’ll meet in front of the Muddy Ruddy Public House and then walk across the Sellwood Bridge and up into Riverview Cemetery. The walk up to the cemetery is rather steep, so be prepared for a bit of a climb! On the way up and back, we can also check out the views and historic markers on the new Sellwood Bridge. Highlighted on this tour are two architectural gems:
– Riverview Funeral Home (1914) designed by Ellis Lawrence
– Riverview Cemetery Office/ Mausoleum/Chapel (1946) designed by Pietro Belluschi
Cost for this narrated walking tour is $20.
