Canemah was once a bustling head of navigation for the upper Willamette region during the pioneer era. Prior to Euro-American settlement Canemah was a historic gathering place for native tribes. Located at the head of Willamette Falls, just upriver from Oregon City, early travelers portaged the dangerous falls at Canemah. Today, Canemah is part of Oregon City, but retains a bit of its settlement era character with simple wood frame residences from the mid to late 19th century.
We’ll start off with a walk to the Pioneer Cemetery (1864) and then return to the park and go from there to explore a bit of the Canemah historic residential district.
This tour includes some uneven park trails and one steep descent and climb in the residential area. Total distance of tour is about 2 miles.
Cost for this narrated walking tour is $20.
